Workshop to create your own original gourd lamp at Chitose-ro.
In the hall of Chitose-ro, a long-established ryokan (Japanese inn) with a history of more than 150 years located in Yoro Park, visitors can experience making lamps using gourds, which are a well-known specialty of Yoro Town. The instructor for making gourd lamps is Ms. Yuko Mori, a manicurist turned “light space artist” who wants to “spread the charm of gourd, a local specialty, throughout Japan. One of the features of this program is that participants can forget about time and concentrate on making gourd lamps by drilling holes of various sizes in gourds and using a soldering iron to make baked patterns on the surface of the gourds. When the gourd lamps are lit, fantastic lights and shadows spread all over the place.
